The objective of the first course is for the participant to have a clear understanding of the above-mentioned topics and treatment goals for the dentist or hygienist.
The objective of the second course is for the participant to have a clear understanding of the use and effectiveness of local delivered antimicrobial agents.

The first part of the course will go over in detail the various aspects of data collection for a complete Periodontal examination. Specifically the following topics will be covered: appropriate documentation, examination instruments, American Academy of Periodontology Parameters of Care, sequence of data collection, Periodontal Screening & Recording, probing (health versus disease), recession, clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing, mucogingival defects & pathology, mobility, furcation involvement classifications and periodontal diagnosis.
The second part of the course will evaluate the use of local delivered, antimicrobial agents as an adjunct for non-surgical periodontal therapy. Specifically, PerioChip, Atridox and Arestin will be discussed as to their indications, contraindications, clinical use and effectiveness. In addition, the systemic use of Periostat will be covered. Studies from the literature will shed interesting findings with regard to changes in probing depths, clinical attachment levels and bleeding on probing.
