This online course is designed for the healthcare provider and will provide the viewer with a comprehensive overview of issues and trends associated with HIV and AIDS in the United States and abroad. A historical review of the development of HIV and AIDS is discussed, which includes the issues and trends associated with the spread and transmission of the virus, risk factors associated with transmission in the patient population and for the healthcare provider. Co-infections are also discussed and their relationship with HIV. An overview of the laws which protect patient confidentiality will be presented as well as a brief summary of the treatment guidelines that have been developed.
